Owen’s Blog: July 2, 2017

Things don’t always work out the way we would like. Many of us live with an aching sense of unfulfillment, a health problem, a relational crisis, financial struggles, personal failure, etc. Life can hurt. It’s good to remember that Jesus didn’t die to save us from the harsh realities of life, but so that we could have a personal relationship with the living God. As a matter of fact, most people can testify that it was in the midst of their personal life struggle that they came to know the Lord more fully. In my own life I can look back on experiences that at the time seemed especially desolating and painful with particular satisfaction because I can see how God used it for my growth. I can honestly say that in all my years as a follower of Jesus, the things that have truly enhanced and deepened my maturity and character have been times of difficulty, not happiness. Faced with a personal crisis? Commit yourself to the Lord. Through this struggle you’ll see how much you need Him…you’ll experience His comfort in the midst of your emptiness and you’ll be transformed into the image of Jesus. C.S. Lewis said, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain.”
